I’m Kristin. By day, I’m an operations research analyst and data strategist for the U.S. Army. Meaning I not only spend a lot of my time crunching numbers and figuring out how to read the stories written in lots of little data bits in our system, but I also craft and shape those stories over time and integrate the newest technologies to tease out more fine details.
I also spend an inordinate amount of my spare time researching new techniques in data science and data visualization, and seeing what the latest efforts are doing in machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence. I’m a little bit passionate about what I do.
This blog is my place to share brainstorms, thoughts, doodles, things that might lead to research, my current research projects, published works, and collaboration opportunities. I started it as an exercise to make myself write more about technical topics and the things that inspire me.
I hope it will become a useful tool for anyone interested in a career in operations research, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and a host of other fascinating scientific topics, all of which I look at with a human capital focus but can be applied across a huge breadth of topics. I hope you find things in here that are useful for you, things that you want to discuss or provide education on, or things that are just plain fun.
All of my digital devices are set with alarms to tell me when I’ve spent too much time delving into 1s and 0s and need to pay attention to my priorities – my husband Scott and the adorable tiny human we produced almost a year ago, Marcus Arthur.
Seriously. How cute is this kid?
If you’re interested in what we do in our spare time, you can see my photography, our family life, and my recipes on my foodie blog, ON THE HOME FRONT.
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy!
