Reading… This month’s book is Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness by Cass Sunstein and Richard Thaler. It covers concepts on how to use incentives, positive reinforcement, and indirect suggestions influence behavior and decision making in the workplace. My former boss recommended it to help generate some ideas for creating workplace incentives, and it has sparked a ton of them!
Writing… That book I’m still supposed to finish. I swear, if I can finish just one chapter in the next couple months, that’s going to be an achievement. But I’m also writing a paper for an upcoming complexity systems and AI symposium. It’ll be fun to put down my comments and thoughts in no more than 3-5 pages for once!
Cooking… With the upcoming Army Birthday Ball and the Military Operations Research Society Symposium, both of which I have time-consuming roles in, I haven’t been able to do all that much cooking. I have, however, come up with a number of relatively calorie friendly options, like my Chicken Taco Lettuce Wraps, which you’ll see on On the Home Front soon!
Listening… To Yiruma. My son loves it when I play the piano with him in my lap (and sometimes I actually play melodies around his very determined accompaniments), and I play a couple of his pieces to my son routinely. And my Alexa was kind enough to suggest a compilation of his pieces to me when I asked her to play me something relaxing. I love AI.
Thinking… Once again, I’m not prepared for as busy as I’m going to be this month. I’m wrapping up two major planning efforts, but also kicking off a half dozen more. Someone told me adulthood was just telling yourself over and over that “after this week, things will be easier” and I”m starting to believe them.
Wishing… Did I mention last month that I wished I could take a day to telework just to get something done, that I’m just sitting in meetings and not doing any real actual work? Yeah. I still wish that.
Training… Not at all. I have a dozen different fitness apps and they’re not helping me actually get up and out the door and working out. And I’m out of the Disney Wine + Dine Half because we had to change up our travel schedule for the fall. I’ll probably be doing the Army Ten Miler, so at least I’ll have that on my calendar to motivate myself.
Loving… My husband for stepping up and making sure that the house doesn’t fall down, that we have food to eat, and that I remember just how great it is to get off the computer and hang out with friends while our kids play together.
So what are you guys up to, currently?
